CTCITC 118: Web Design & Development – Introduction to HTML, CSS, & Javascript

Overview:  HTML/XHTML introduces the student to the language of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), Extensible Hypertext Markup Language (XHTML), Cascading Styles Sheets (CSS), with some introduction to Javascript, and JQuery, to create web-formed web pages.  Ensure that web pages are compliant with current web standards. Students will create, publish, test, and maintain web pages using markup languages, style sheets, and scripting languages.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  • Understand HTML, CSS,  and other web design technologies
  • Create a web page with HTML/XHTML
    • Add hyperlinks to a web page
  • Design a web page, including the use of CSS
  • Use frames in a web site
  • Create web page forms
  • Javascript and introduction to JQuery
  • Work with cascading style sheets (CSS)
  • Create a multimedia web page
  • Create a HTML/XHTML web site
  • Publish an HTML/XHTML web site
  • Understand the role of content management systems
  • Conform to publish standards
  • Understand aspects of security
  • Understand aspects of Copyrights, ethics and ownership as they relate to web design

 By the end of the course, the student may be able to:

  • Develop structured valid HTML pages
  • Format web pages with valid CSS and CSS box nodes
  • Layout pages with CSS and HTML elements
  • Create HTML tables and forms
  • Recognize Javascript and/or JQuery languages
  • Use fundamental JavaScript capabilities to add interactivity and functionality to web pages
  • Create responsive web page layouts
